Michelle Perry Special Section Editor

Michelle Perry began her tenure at the Craig Daily Press as a photographer and features writer in October 2004. She is now the special sections editor, overseeing the newspaper's many editorial sections and magazines. She also covers the education beat and shoots many of the newspaper's photographs. A graduate of Indiana University, Michelle is originally from Ohio. She enjoys photography, sewing and knitting. She leads the Moffat County 4-H photography and news writing clubs, sits on the county's Grand Futures Prevention Coalition board and assists with the Humane Society of Moffat County's annual fundraising Pet Mates calendar. She loves Craig and the people who make it special, and especially enjoys the West's wide open spaces. She looks forward to hearing you. Residents view the Moving Wall on Thursday after the opening ceremony for the wall’s Craig visit. The wall, a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., is on display 24 hours a day through noon Monday at Loudy-Simpson Park.

Carrie Floyd and her 5-year-old son, Mitchell, located and photographed the name of Gale S. Pritchard, a 23-year-old Craig resident who died fighting in Vietnam. Floyd said it is important to her to teach her son about the history the wall represents.

Jim Harned, of Grand Junction, makes a rubbing of a late solider’s name found on the Moving Wall on Thursday at Loudy-Simpson Park. “Even though I wasn’t (in Vietnam), it’s a pretty emotional thing,” Harned said.

Veteran Charley Watkins addresses the crowd that gathered Thursday morning at Loudy-Simpson Park for the opening ceremony of the Moving Wall, which is in Craig until Monday. Veterans, the mayor and a pastor spoke to the crowd about the efforts to get the wall here and its symbolism.
