Clerks Corner: Municipal election information

Lila Herod/For the Saturday Morning Press

The City of Craig will hold its municipal election on April 4.

This election will be held in accordance with Title 31 of the Colorado Revised Statutes and City Clerk Kathy Larson will be the designated election official. The city and county have entered into an intergovernmental agreement for the conduct of this election. The Moffat County Clerk’s Office will assist the city with voter registration, ballot layout, preparation, signature verification, voting equipment and the tabulation of ballots.

The county recently acquired the new Dominion voting system, and it will be used for the first time in this municipal election. Voters are going to love this new system and can expect this election to be conducted just as efficiently as other elections in the past.

Important voter information

In order to vote in this municipal election, you must be a registered voter who lives within the city limits of Craig. Active voters will receive their ballot in the mail between March 13 and March 17.

You may need to update your address if you have moved since the last election. Ballots are not forwarded and therefore updating your current address with the county is the only way to assure that you will receive a ballot in the mail.

When you receive your ballot, you can vote using any of the following methods:

• Vote the paper ballot you will receive in the mail. Make sure to sign the affirmation on the return envelope, affix the proper postage and return your ballot by mail.

• Return your completed ballot to the County Election Office or drop it off at the 24-hour drop box, which is located at the east entrance of the courthouse.

• Vote in person at the Voter Service and Polling Center located at the Moffat County Courthouse. The VSPC is open to voters 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday between March 20 and April 3. It will also be open Election Day, which is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 4.

Other services available at the VSPC include, issuance of replacement ballots, in-person paper voting, in-person accessible machine voting, the ability to make an address changes and the ability to register to vote.
