— If you’re like me when it comes to playing fantasy baseball, you don’t draft one of the small handfuls of quality catchers on draft day, you get them off the waiver wire. So this week, I’ll give you the lowdown on some quality catchers who should be available in most leagues.

• Kurt Suzuki, catcher, Oakland A’s — In the past week, Suzuki has put up some impressive numbers: .500 batting average, two home runs, three runs and 10 RBIs. For the week, he ranked 11th in the Yahoo game.

• Rod Barajas, catcher, Toronto Bluejays — When you see his numbers, they don’t immediately jump out at you. The one thing you will notice, though, is a very good batting average for a catcher. Barajas is batting .295 on the season with five home runs and 23 RBIs. If you’re looking for a catcher who won’t destroy your team’s batting average, then Barajas is a good pick up.

• Chris Snyder, catcher, Arizona Diamondbacks — For the season, Snyder has 32 RBIs, seven home runs and 22 runs scored. If you’re willing to take a risk in the batting average department, where he’s batting just .247, Snyder just might be worth picking up.

Now, let’s move on to some other players who could make a difference for your team.

• Casey Blake, Cleveland Indians, first base, third base, outfield — It’s always good to have someone on your team who can play multiple positions. It’s even better when they can produce good numbers. Blake is on pace to deliver close to 100 RBIs to go along with 15 to 20 home runs this season. For the season, Blake has 45 RBIs, seven home runs, 36 runs scored and a .266 batting average. Picking him up now could really help a team in the 2nd half.

• Jeff Baker, Colorado Rockies, first base, second base, outfield — This past week, Baker was ranked 3rd in the Yahoo game with eight runs scored, a near record-tying four home runs, seven RBIs and a stolen base to go along with a .435 batting mark. Seems like someone is picking up the slack for this team. Grab this guy off the waivers before it’s too late.
