Craig — To the editor:
I would like to clear up a couple of points made by Mr. Germond’s letter June 18. First, grazing and hunting rights were not eliminated within the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Utah.
Second, I worked as a wildlife biologist for the Bureau of Land Management, and when I started 25 years ago, there were restrictions on oil and gas drilling on public lands and on private lands with federal minerals throughout all western states for the protection of sage grouse nesting, critical winter ranges, raptor (hawks and eagles) nesting, just to name a few.
Oil and gas companies have had to deal with these restrictions for many years and have adapted quite well.

you've got to understand that Mr gemond gets a little crazy from time to time. He can't help it, theres actually a name for his condition. however just because your parinoid doesn't mean someone isn't out to get you. I beleive he was referring to the new regulation that Gov. Ritter is trying to sign about shuting down drilling for three months so the black tailed prairie dog won't get embarassed if someone sees them breeding. If the gov. signes this bill drilling in several counties will come to a halt for three months. maybe the oil and gas companies can deal with that but if you were an employee could you? Or would you go where the work is stable and year around? This could affect 10,681 jobs in garfield county alone. I do beleive that someone is trying to shut down exploration because every week there is a new measure coming across the desk of Gov. Ritter.
