The lease agreement Craig resident Jerry Thompson has with the county to grow wheat on county land was extended for one year to give Thompson a chance to harvest a crop from the field that sat fallow last year.

The agreement pays the county one third of the profits from the wheat crop after harvest.

Commissioner Tom Gray questioned whether the agreement paid the county one third of a payment for a crop damaged by hail, and county attorney Kathleen Taylor assured him the government crop agreement did cover that provision.

The farming agreement with the county will be open for bids again next year on the 100 acres of land south of town.

In other business, the commissioners received no bids on a proposed addition to the Public Safety Center garages.

The county has a $350,623 Department of Local Affairs grant, with $200,000 matching money from the county, set aside for the project.

Plans call for vehicle and equipment storage rooms, as well as cold storage for the road and bridge department in the addition.

Commissioners are considering accepting a bid for the shell of the structure, with money from other sources eventually finishing the project.

The grant money request already has been extended to allow for the sale of the old county shop, the sale of which produced the matching county money for the garage addition project.

The current grant is valid until December.
